Growth hacking is a type of marketing usually found in startups that focuses on growing customer acquisition, retention, and monetization quickly. Due to limited funds growth hackers uses low-cost, unconventional, and guerrilla marketing to scale their startups quickly. This is achieved through rapid experimentation and testing.
Here are a few of my favorite tactics that you can start using today:
1.) Two-Sided Referrals
Two-Sided Referrals offer an incentive to both the referrer and the referee. Dropbox is a classic example of this. When Dropbox was just starting out they started a program where if you invited your friend and they signed up you both got an extra 500MB of storage space for free.
2.) Guest Post on Other Blog
Guest blog posting is simply writing a blog article for someone else’s blog. There a few benefits to guest blog posting: the first benefit is that it helps establish yourself as a thought-leader in the industry. Second it helps build your audience, guest blogging allows you to get in-front of new people. Lastly it helps add backlinks to your site.
3.) Invite Others to Guest Post on Your Blog
This is the opposite of number two. Having people guest post on your blog helps bring a new audience to your site. The guest blogger will share the article with their followers and help drive a different audience to your site.
4.) Offer Incentive for Activation
This tactic was popularized by NewRelic. After signing up for a trial customers were offered a free t-shirt if they signed up. The trial customers were qualified leads and the shirt offered a little encouragement to sign up.
5.) Pay With a Tweet
Have an industry white paper or ebook that you want to offer potential customers? Try offering it for free if they tweet it. Paying with a tweet is low resistant. Furthermore, the people following the persona paying with a tweet are likely also interested in your resource.
There you have it five growth hacking tactics that you can use to help grow your business.
